How to Check a Vanilla Visa Gift Card Balance
Vanilla cards are prepaid Visa and Mastercard gift cards, not store cards — which changes how you check them and what happens if you lose one.

Short answer: Check a Vanilla Visa or Vanilla Mastercard gift card balance at balance.vanillagift.com, or by calling 1-833-322-6760. You need the 16-digit card number, the expiry date and the 3-digit security code from the back. There is nothing to register first.

What you need before you start
Every balance-check method except the in-store one asks for two things. Both are printed on the card itself — on the back of a physical card, or in the email for an eGift Card.
Method 2: Check online (fastest)
- Go to balance.vanillagift.com. Type the address in yourself rather than following a search result — this card brand attracts an unusual number of copycat sites.
- Enter the 16-digit card number from the front of the card.
- Enter the expiry date and the 3-digit security code from the back.
- Your balance and recent transactions appear on screen.
Vanilla states there is no need to register the card, so any site asking you to create an account or hand over personal details before showing a balance is not the official one.

Method 1: Check by phone
The automated line reads your balance back to you.
Method 3: Check in a Vanilla Visa store
There is no in-store lookup — Vanilla cards are not tied to any retailer. A shop assistant cannot check the balance for you even if you bought the card there. Use the website or the phone line.
Vanilla Visa gift card rules worth knowing
Most guides stop at the balance check. These are the terms that actually catch people out.
- Expiry
- Vanilla states the funds on both physical and eGift cards never expire, though the plastic itself carries a date.
- Fees
- Vanilla states that other than the purchase fee, there are no fees on the card.
- Activation
- Physical cards need activating at balance.vanillagift.com or by phone. eGift cards are active as soon as they are bought.
- ZIP code at checkout
- If an online shop asks for a billing ZIP code, Vanilla says to use your own — there is no preset billing address on the card.
- Where they work
- Anywhere the Visa or Mastercard network is accepted, subject to the card having enough balance for the whole transaction.
- Lost or stolen
- Not automatically replaced. Vanilla says to call 1-833-322-6760 immediately, and that it cannot provide a replacement unless you supply the card number and the other identifying information it asks for.
That last point is the one that matters: without the card number written down somewhere, a lost Vanilla card is usually gone. Photograph the front and back when you receive it.
Avoid fake balance-check sites
A card number plus its PIN is everything needed to spend the card. There is no password, no account, no verification step. Anyone who collects those two fields can drain the balance in minutes, and because a stolen balance is not replaced, the money is simply gone.
Search results for gift card balance queries are full of look-alike pages that host their own entry form. A legitimate guide — this one included — sends you to the retailer's own site to type those digits. If a page asks you to enter the number and PIN on that page, close it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I check a Vanilla balance without the card number?
No. Both the website and the phone line need the full 16-digit number, and Vanilla states it cannot replace a card without it either.
Why was my Vanilla card declined for the full amount?
A prepaid card has to cover the whole transaction. If the balance is short, the payment fails rather than part-paying — ask the cashier to split the payment across two cards.
Do Vanilla gift cards expire?
Vanilla states the funds never expire. If the printed date has passed, call 1-833-322-6760 about a replacement card for the remaining balance.

Yes. It is the balance checker Vanilla names in its own FAQ. Several similar-looking domains exist that are not connected to Vanilla — type the address in rather than clicking a search result.
Can I add money to a Vanilla gift card?
No. Vanilla gift cards are single-load and cannot be topped up. Reloadable prepaid cards are a different product.
Can I get cash off a Vanilla Visa card?
No. Vanilla gift cards cannot be used at an ATM or for cash back.
